Santa Monica Engagement SessionI love when back lighting, negative space and mood combine to create a beautiful portrait. This image is not a true silhouette, as it retains detail in the faces and the clothing. Shooting directly into the bright window enabled me to keep a darkness on the camera-facing side of the couple, though I could have lit them with a reflector or off-camera lighting. A subtle darkness was exactly the look I was going for, and the use of B&W helped this image take on a timeless quality. Photographed at the Viceroy Santa Monica in California.
