The wedding of Swathi and Michael took place at the Ritz-Carlton in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia, and I was delighted this great couple chose me as their photographer and flew me all the way out from Los Angeles to shoot their event. The couple chose to honor both of their cultures by having both non-denominational and South Indian ceremonies, which I always think is so nice when the bride and groom have different backgrounds. Poor Swathi was unfortunately very sick on her wedding day, but you wouldn’t know it from how beautiful she looked. Her three outfits were each stunning, and the day went off without a hitch. I’m still not sure how Swathi made it through, but she was a trooper, and didn’t let her flu put a damper on her wedding day. We even had time to leave the hotel grounds to go do some fun portraits at a local ’50s diner, which I loved. Both the South Indian wedding ceremony and the non-denominational wedding ceremony took place in the Ritz-Carlton ballroom, which then had to be quickly turned for the reception. I’m always impressed when a coordination or hotel team can turn a room during a cocktail party. The entire process boggles the mind. Event coordination was provided by Ani Sandhu and the team at Ace of Events. Hair and makeup was by Mona Badshah. And florals were by Manu’s Weddings.
A big shoutout to the wonderful Katya and Arthur at Story Motion Studios in Washington, D.C., who graciously served as third shooters for this event. I am deeply grateful for their kindness and beautiful work.
